8 weeks to go and counting.....

See?! I knew I would suck at this blogging thing! 2 months ago my computer crashed, so I unplugged for a while. It was nice, but I missed being connected. Now that I'm back up and running (literally), let's give this another go.

8 weeks left to train. My boys have been super sick off and on the last few weeks making trips to the gym pretty difficult. But now that I have no more excuses left to give, I'm giving it my all these last 2 months. I know I can make it to the gym on both weekend days, Monday, and Thursday. So, my goal is the gym 4 days a week (at least) and 2 days of P90X workouts. So far this week, I swam 2000 yds in 45 minutes doing various drills on Saturday, biked 15 miles with Matt on Sunday, and ran/walked a 5k today on the treadmill. At 15 weeks pregnant, I feel pretty damn good. My weakness right now? The running. My 3.1 mile time today was 44 minutes. Embarrassing. My right knee gives out after about 10 minutes of running. I think the longest I went was 25 minutes straight about 3 months ago. So, me thinks I need to start strength training again. I need to shave at least 10 minutes off that time to be respected!!

I'm back, and I'm back for good. No gym tomorrow, but legs and abs tomorrow night. 8 weeks is going to be here before I know it.

See you in a few days........

I have....a PLAN!

So, after looking at a couple websites and in my book for training guides, I think I've come up with a plan that works for me. I know that if I want to even finish the race, I need to follow it as closely as possible. Lots of things came up the past few weeks to prevent me from going to the gym---bad weather, sick kiddos, lazy MoM. 18 weeks will go by fast. And it's SO easy and I'm very guilty of doing it, but making excuses will be the worst thing I can do. My sister arrives on Tuesday, so I'm hoping this week will be easy in terms of doing everything I NEED to do. She's a built in babysitter for the week :)
I think I've been overdoing it on the treadmill, so I'm going by the book.

Week 1 plan of attack

Monday: Chest & Back (P90X)

Tuesday: 27 minutes walking/3 minutes running on treadmill
35 minutes in pool; 100 warmup, 8x25 freestyle, 6x50 back/freestyle,
4x100 breast/freestyle, 200 freestyle with buoy, 100
cool down. TOTAL YDS= 1300yds

Wednesday: Shoulders & Arms (P90X)

Thursday: 27 minutes walking/3 minutes running on treadmill
35 minutes in pool; 100 warmup, 12x25 freestyle, 6x50 back/freestyle,
6x50 breast/freestyle, 200 freestyle with buoy, 100
cool down. TOTAL YDS= 1300yds

Friday: Spin Class

Saturday: Legs & Back (P90X)

Sunday: Rest Day!

I hope I can stay true to my plan. I know I can do it, and I WANT to do it. I'll be back in a few days to check in. I hope to post more often so I can write about the impact of my workouts. About whether or not I need to tweak the running, swimming, or biking.
Only time will tell!

Until next time,

Christi

I should probably be following a training guide by now

I went to Center City with my husband a few weekends ago to buy two things that are key to my goal. A new pair of running shoes and a book about triathlons. I could have ordered the book off of Amazon, but I wanted it NOW. So, I found one---'First Triathlon-Your perfect plan for success' by Lucy Smith. It's a great book about how to go about training for your first race, BUT it's a little too basic for me. Once I got to the part where you should only swim 700 yards for your swim part, I put it down. Hello?! Doesn't she know I can do much better than that? I already swim 1500m twice a week. Hmm, maybe I should start focusing on my weakest link first?! Yup, the running part. Not really fun for me. Especially since I don't own an MP3 player and have to rely on reading the closed caption on the tv. Not fun, not fun at all.
But I tried. Today, at the gym, I ran a little over 2 miles on the treadmill. Well, I didn't run the entire time. I logged 25 minutes and ran about 15 minutes in 3 increments--a 15mpm (minute per mile)pace, 12 mpm pace, and a 10mpm pace. It was hard for me and it sucked, but I did it. I followed it up with a 1000m swim. I felt pretty good.

I really need to post weekly training goals so I know I'm covering all my bases. That could be my homework for tonight while my husband and I watch Idol.

On a good note, my boys did not cry at all when I dropped them off at the childcare center at the gym. Success!!

Huh, I hear the pitter patter of feet. They have escaped from their tents and are on the run. Off I go!!

Best,

Christi

NO MORE EXCUSES.

This is the third blog I've started. The other 2 were suppposed to be about my children and how I manage to stay sane. I think I wrote 5 posts between the 2 of them, and then started to forget to write. SO. Here I am again. What makes you think I won't fail again? Oh, I know. Because this blog is all about accountability. It's about success, not failure. It's about becoming a better and healthier person and athlete. This is MY blog about becoming and training to be a triathlete. My posts will mainly focus on what I've been doing in order to prepare for my first triathlon here in Philadelphia, PA. I've already signed up, so I have no excuses to quit! I joined a gym about 10 minutes away from my house, so I'll recap on what I've been doing since then.
I joined LA Fitness on December 4th for $388 for the entire year. They had a pool, which allows me to swim, TONS of group classes, great cardio machines, and of course, the weight and strength training equipment.
I currently swim twice a week, around 1500m, and run/walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I just started taking a spin class, and I'll continue to do that at least once a week, if not twice. So, that's that. I also do P90X with my husband as much as I can during the week. I usually have to wait until my boys go down at night before I can begin a workout. I know 6 days a week is a bit much, but as long as I try and focus on legs, back, chest, and abs, I'll be OK. Oh, and yoga, and plyometrics too. Whew. That is alot. I am starting to ramble, and since I really want my posts to be somewhat organized, I think I'll leave this one as is.

As the weeks go on, I'll share my workouts, my ups and downs, and since I know I won't be able to help it, my life with my 2 1/2 year old identical twin boys and my almost 11 month old son. I am SUPER MOM and will totally wear the label with pride.

I hope you enjoy following my journey to becoming a triathlete!

Best,

Christi
